Feeling Blue

I'm a huge fan of dark jewel tones like Oxblood, Peacock, Eggplant, and Forest Green. I used to be afraid of dark colors for fear that they would make a room feel claustophobic or small. However, I find with the right pieces and placements, dark colors (particularly on walls) can make a room feel larger than it is.

The largest wall in our living/dining room is painted a peacock color very similar to the first photo below. The rest of the walls are a light cream and the trims are bright white. We used to have a sisal carpet, too. That did not quite work with our way-too-hairy cats. Unfortunately the floor is now a yellowish parquet and we have far too much furniture and "things" for our 1 bedroom unit. I love this look, however, and hope to recreate, or rather, upgrade the idea when we purchase a house next year.
