Something Old

I bought a two layer veil on eBay a while back and have been trying to find a way to wear it with much difficulty. Somehow it just doesn't look right on me. This weekend I tried it on with my dress and realized it isn't even the right color! My dress is a light ivory and the veil was most definitely pure white.

I decided to revert back to my original idea of a birdcage veil instead so of course, I had to do a little Googling for inspirations.

There's something so ladylike and romantic about the birdcage veil.

Unfortunately, with less than two weeks to go, my options (particularly online) are becoming slim. Hope to find something after work this week. Wish me luck!

  1. Love a birdcage veil...so ladylike. Could you possibly dye the veil you have in a little tea or coffee. My best friend wore her mother's wedding gown and they dyed the veil with tea until it turned the right color. Can't wait to see what you find! Thanks for "crushing" us!!

  2. Good luck! I had a veil, but it only made it through about 5 pictures before the wind blew it enough and I ripped it off! Can't wait to see what you find.

  3. Check out the fabric shops along Queen Street West, starting at Spadina and then westward. I picked up a very cute feathered hair ornament for <$10, but forgot to wear it! I know they had lots of netting too. The shop was on the north side of Queen West, before Bathurst, but there are many fabric shops in the area. You can also try calling Fashion Crimes and Stella Luna on Queen, Lilliput on College.

I also had a seamstress dye my MIL's veil to match my dress. I have no idea how she did it though!

    Good luck!

  4. That was my other concern with the veil, too! I feel like the birdcage veil would stay on with less fuss.

  5. Great idea! I'm so out of time now so I will just buy one but I'm definitely going to attempt the tea-staining as a DIY project. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

  6. Thanks so much for the suggestions! I was already planning to go to Sussman's Bridal Supply which apparently is between Bathurst & Spadina on Queen W but I forgot about Fashion Crimes. So wish I get off work earlier. Oh well, might have to put my running shoes on and make a dash around town next week. Will make a post if my mission is a success. ;)
